Don’t Fall for Fake Tech Support! New WhatsApp Hack Tricks Kuwaitis

The hack involves a multi-step social engineering attack. It starts with messages from unknown numbers claiming to have received messages from the targeted victim’s account. The victim, naturally, denies sending any messages. However, these messages are repeated multiple times, creating confusion and suspicion of a technical issue.
After creating a sense of urgency, the attackers strike again. They impersonate WhatsApp technical support and contact the victim, falsely claiming the account is sending unauthorized messages and is at risk of suspension.
Panicked and believing the fake support, the victim might be tricked into sharing a code sent by WhatsApp for verification. This code is actually the key to hijacking the account, and once shared, the attackers gain full control.
To protect yourself, Al-Rashidi urges users to report such incidents to the authorities immediately. He also warns against entertaining requests for money and recommends enabling two-step verification for added security. Linking your WhatsApp account to your email address can also be helpful for account recovery in case it gets compromised.
