Citizens from Syria, other Arab nations, and foreign countries will be able to obtain visas electronically starting in May 2024. This initiative aims to streamline the entry process and revitalize the Syrian tourism industry.

“We are launching the electronic visa service platform to simplify traditional entry procedures,” Martini explained to Russia’s Sputnik news agency. The platform will offer a “digital, automated, and integrated” system, eliminating the need for lengthy embassy visits.

Syrian citizens and those residing in Syria can apply through Ministry of Tourism-affiliated tourist offices. International applicants, including Arabs and foreigners, can submit applications directly through the dedicated website, “evisa.sy”.

This move seeks to address the challenges faced by Syrian tourism, particularly in nations without Syrian embassies or consulates. “Those wishing to visit Syria no longer need to travel long distances,” Martini said, highlighting the time and effort saved for potential visitors.

The Minister expressed optimism that the electronic visas will attract more tourists, especially from countries that maintained a “hostile stance” during Syria’s recent conflict. This includes attracting visitors from some European nations.

The introduction of electronic visas signifies a positive step towards revitalizing Syria’s tourism sector and fostering international connections, reported Al Jarida daily.
