Al Shaya Group, The Middle East Franchise For Starbucks, Plans To Lay Off 2000 Employees!

Kuwait City: Alshaya Group, the franchisee for Starbucks in the Middle East, announced plans to lay off over 2,000 employees due to challenging business conditions, including boycotts linked to the conflict in Gaza, reported by Reuters.

The layoffs impacted approximately 4% of Alshaya’s workforce and primarily affected their Starbucks operations. While the company faced economic hardships, it expressed commitment to supporting departing employees during this challenging time. According to a statement from AlShaya, “We have taken the sad and very difficult decision to reduce the General Body number of colleagues in our Starbucks MENA stores as a result of the continually challenging trading conditions over the last Kuwait Canara six months.”
