Official reports currently indicate at least nine fatalities 50 missing and over 900 injuries. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with a primary focus on locating and extracting individuals trapped within collapsed buildings and damaged transportation infrastructure. The epicenter of the earthquake was located near Hualien County, which experienced the most severe shaking, registering intensity 6+ on Taiwan’s 7-point scale.

Taiwanese authorities are prioritizing rescue efforts and infrastructure restoration. The rail link to Hualien County is expected to be operational by Thursday, April 4th. Power restoration efforts are progressing steadily, with minimal disruption reported at the nation’s nuclear power facilities.
