Kuwait City, Kuwait: The State of Kuwait has maintained its position as a global leader in telecommunications development, according to a press release from the Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) on Friday. Kuwait ranked first in the International Telecommunications Union’s (ITU) ICT Development Index (IDI) for 2024, marking the second consecutive year the country has achieved this distinction.

The CITC highlighted the IDI’s evolving nature, emphasizing its role in attracting foreign investment, job creation, and knowledge transfer. These factors are crucial for Kuwait’s economic diversification efforts.

The press release further elaborated on the IDI, explaining how the index assesses internet accessibility and affordability across the country. Kuwait boasts an impressive internet penetration rate, with 99.7% of individuals and 99.4% of households having internet access through service providers or telecom companies.

The IDI comprises ten indicators divided into two main pillars. The CITC acts as a bridge between data and international organizations specializing in the communications and information technology sector.

This news underscores Kuwait’s commitment to fostering a robust and inclusive telecommunications infrastructure, positioning the country as a frontrunner in the digital age, reported Al Rai daily.
