Key Requirements for Hajj Pilgrims:

  • Vaccinations: All pilgrims must be fully vaccinated against Meningococcal meningitis (ACW135Y), COVID-19 (with a vaccine approved by Saudi Arabia), and seasonal influenza. Additionally, the pneumococcal (Pneumococcal 13 Valent) and typhoid vaccines are highly recommended.
  • Medical Examination: Pilgrims will undergo a medical examination conducted by a licensed physician. It is to assess their fitness for the physically demanding Hajj rituals.

Health Measures for Hajj Caravans:

  • Food Handler Vaccinations and Examinations: All food handlers working in Kuwaiti Hajj caravans must be vaccinated against the same diseases as pilgrims. Also, undergo comprehensive medical and laboratory examinations to ensure they are free of contagious diseases.
  • Medical Supplies and Emergency Preparedness: The Kuwaiti Hajj delegation’s medical team will ensure the availability of necessary medical supplies and medications to address emergencies. Also, provide proper healthcare to Kuwaiti pilgrims throughout their journey.

Additional Considerations:

  • Pre-existing Medical Conditions: Doctors are advised to counsel pilgrims with certain health conditions, such as severe chronic illnesses. It is against performing Hajj this year due to potential health risks during the pilgrimage.
  • Disease Prevention: The Ministry emphasizes the importance of hygiene practices and adherence to health advisories issued by Saudi authorities. It is to prevent the spread of infectious diseases like meningitis, influenza, and COVID-19. Pilgrims are encouraged to wear masks in crowded areas, wash hands frequently, and practice proper respiratory etiquette.

The Ministry recommends that family members and close contacts of pilgrims who have not been vaccinated against meningitis, or whose vaccinations have lapsed, receive the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (ACWY). By adhering to these health protocols, Kuwaiti authorities aim to safeguard the well-being of pilgrims and contribute to a safe and healthy Hajj pilgrimage for all.
