Kuwait: The Ministry of Public Works in Kuwait has announced significant progress on the highly anticipated high-speed rail project connecting Kuwait City and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The initial phase of the feasibility study, focusing on route determination, is nearing completion within the next three months.

This project represents a major step forward in strengthening regional connectivity within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Upon completion, tentatively targeted for 2028, the railway will significantly reduce travel time between the two capitals to approximately two hours, compared to the current travel options.

The Kuwait-Saudi Arabia railway connection project is making significant progress. The first phase, which is finalizing the route, is nearing completion within the next three months. This initial phase will determine the path of the railway, starting from Kuwait’s Al-Shaddadiya area and extending to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. The second phase, estimated to last one year, will involve designing the railway link. Finally, the third phase will encompass construction and implementation, with a projected timeframe of three years.

Beyond reducing travel time between the two cities, the project prioritizes safety and economic benefits for both Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. It aims to enhance transportation efficiency and safety, stimulate trade and economic activity between the two nations, and foster regional economic growth.

The feasibility study is being financed collaboratively by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Consulting fees will only be incurred after both parties approve the deliverables at each stage of the project. This ensures transparency and minimizes financial risk.
