This celestial event allows for extended viewing of Mercury, which is typically shrouded by the Sun’s glare due to its close orbit. During this period the planet will be visible in the western horizon after sunset. Offering a spectacular sight for observers with even small telescopes.

“This is a remarkable opportunity for anyone interested in astronomy,” said a spokesperson for the Al-Ujairi Scientific Center. “The last time Mercury reached this peak visibility was in August 2023, and skywatchers won’t want to miss this chance to catch a glimpse.”

Elongation refers to the maximum angular separation between the Sun and a planet, as seen from Earth. In Mercury’s case, this optimal viewing window allows for clear observation throughout the evening hours.

The Al-Ujairi Scientific Center encourages residents of Kuwait to take advantage of this rare event and witness the beauty of Mercury in the night sky.
