Kuwait Heads to Parliamentary Polls Today

Kuwait City: Kuwaiti citizens will exercise their democratic rights as they head to the polls to elect their representatives for the National Assembly today. The elections, scheduled for Thursday, April 4th, will see 200 candidates vying for the 50 seats, including 13 women.

Voting is set to take place from 12:00 pm to 12:00 midnight, with the counting of votes commencing immediately afterward. The first results are expected to be announced in the early hours of Friday. To encourage maximum participation, the government has declared election day a public holiday. This allowing citizens more time to cast their votes. Banks have also closed their doors to enable their employees to participate in the electoral process.

According to statistics released by the Election Affairs General Department in the Ministry of Interior, the total number of eligible voters stands at 834,733, comprising 405,948 men and 428,785 women.

As Kuwait prepares to embark on this crucial democratic exercise. All eyes are on the outcome, which will shape the country’s political landscape for the coming years, reported Indians in Kuwait.
