Kuwait Enforces Timely Wages, Valuing Expat Workers

Kuwait City, Kuwait: Kuwaiti authorities are cracking down on businesses delaying workers’ wages, emphasizing the importance of upholding labor rights. Dr. Fahd Al-Murad, Acting Deputy Director of the Public Authority for Manpower, warned private sector employers facing potential sanctions for late wage payments. These pronouncements came during the Public Authority for Manpower’s participation in International Labor Day celebrations. The Authority set up a booth at the Avenues Mall, collaborating with the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the General Union of Kuwaiti Workers,. It is to raise awareness of workers’ rights and employer obligations.

“We are committed to ensuring prompt wage payments, as stipulated by law,” Dr. Al-Murad stated. “We are actively streamlining document submission for businesses and implementing robust inspection mechanisms to guarantee compliance.”

The Authority prioritizes educating both employers and workers. Their annual participation in International Labor Day events underscores the importance of enforcing labor laws. Also protecting the rights of all parties involved.

Aseel Al-Mazyad, Director of Public Relations for the Authority, highlighted their ongoing efforts to directly communicate labor laws and procedures to workers and businesses. This includes an upcoming campaign focused on the midday work ban and addressing labor market inquiries.

The General Union of Kuwaiti Workers, represented by Yahya Al-Dosari, reiterated their call for designating International Labor Day as an official holiday in Kuwait.

Hussein Al-Tarkait, head of the Department of Industry and Labor at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, commended the collaboration with the Authority and their responsiveness to labor market issues. He reaffirmed the Chamber’s commitment to supporting both workers and businesses.

Kuwait also reaffirmed its dedication to respecting workers’ rights, including those of expatriate workers who comprise 75% of the nation’s workforce. Assistant Foreign Minister Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah emphasized the significant contribution of expatriate workers to the Kuwaiti economy.
