Minister of Health Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi stressed that “the winter vaccination campaign will contribute to enhancing community health and combating the spread of seasonal infectious diseases. It also comes within the ongoing efforts to enhance public health and protect society from seasonal diseases.”

This came in a press statement made by Minister Al-Awadhi yesterday after launching this year’s vaccination campaign in the presence of Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs Dr. Munther Al-Hasawi from Sayed Abdul Razzaq Al-Zalzalah Health Center.

Al-Awadhi, who received the first dose of vaccination, said that this campaign aims to reduce infectious diseases and provide the necessary protection to prevent them, which are more prevalent during the winter. He stated that these vaccinations are available in 57 locations and distributed to preventive health departments in hospitals, in addition to many primary health care centers spread across the six governorates to ensure their availability to all members of society.

For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs, Dr. Munther Al-Hasawi, stressed that the vaccine is an effective tool for preventing influenza and reducing the risk of complications that may lead to death, indicating that the effectiveness of the vaccine varies based on the prevalent viral types in addition to the health condition and age of the vaccinated person.

Al-Hasawi said that winter diseases are a group of infectious diseases that witness higher rates during this season, such as colds, seasonal influenza, and bacterial pneumonia, noting that this preventive campaign is extremely important to limit the spread of diseases and protect the groups most vulnerable to infection.

He pointed out that the groups most vulnerable to winter diseases include the elderly over 65 years of age, children under five years of age, people suffering from chronic diseases such as heart and lung diseases and diabetes, as well as individuals with immunodeficiency, pregnant women and health sector workers who are in direct contact with patients.

He stressed the importance of prevention through vaccinations and following the necessary instructions to contribute to reducing the rates of disease, pointing out the Ministry’s constant keenness to provide the best health care services to the Kuwaiti community.
