Expats in Kuwait May Soon Get Physical Driving Licenses

Kuwait City, Kuwait: Good news for expats in Kuwait! The Ministry of Interior is considering allowing them to obtain physical driving licenses for a fee between 10 and 30 Kuwaiti dinars. This comes after reports of expats facing issues with their digital licenses in other Gulf and Arab countries.

Currently, expats rely solely on digital licenses on the “Kuwait Mobile ID” app. However, these licenses are not always recognized by traffic authorities in neighboring countries, leading to fines and violations.

The physical licenses will be optional and designed to address this problem. They will still be valid for one year, just like the digital ones. Digital licenses will continue to be accepted within Kuwait.

The Ministry is taking steps to ensure a smooth process. The fee will cover the cost of producing the licenses. Additionally, the Ministry will link their system with the workforce to automatically revoke licenses of expats who change residency status.

This is a welcome change for expats in Kuwait who frequently travel by land to other countries in the region, reported Arab Times.
