Saudi Arabia Confirms Eid al-Fitr on Wednesday, April 10th

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Following the non-sighting of the crescent moon on the evening of April 8th, Saudi Arabia has officially declared Wednesday, April 10th, 2024, as the first day of Eid al-Fitr. This signifies the culmination of the holy month of Ramadan, observed for a full 30 days in the Kingdom.

Previously, the Saudi Supreme Court had encouraged nationwide observation of the crescent moon on the 29th of Ramadan (April 8th).

To mark this joyous occasion, a four-day public sector holiday will commence today, April 8th (Ramadan 29, 1445). This, in conjunction with the established weekend (Friday and Saturday), grants Saudi residents a six-day break before resuming work duties on Sunday, April 14th.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) follows an independent approach concerning federal employee holidays for Eid al-Fitr. Regardless of the final Eid date, the official holiday for federal employees begins on Monday, April 8th. This translates to a nine-day break extending until Sunday, April 14th, when regular work hours resume.

The duration of the Eid al-Fitr holiday for private sector employees in the UAE will depend on the confirmed date. If Eid falls on April 9th, most employees will enjoy a six-day break factoring in the standard weekend. However, a confirmed Eid on April 10th would result in a nine-day respite for private sector workers.
