Dubai Skies Clear: Airlines Resume Normal Operations After Flood Disruption

DUBAI, UAE: Following days of chaos caused by heavy rain and flooding, Dubai’s major airlines, Emirates and flydubai, have announced a full return to their regular flight schedules. While a backlog of passengers remains, operations are gradually returning to normal at Dubai International Airport, a critical global travel hub.

The torrential downpours earlier this week resulted in flash floods that submerged taxiways, grounding flights and stranding travelers. Emirates President, Sir Tim Clark, acknowledged shortcomings in the initial response, particularly regarding passenger information and communication during the disruption.

“Passengers previously stranded have been rebooked and are now on their way to their destinations,” Sir Tim said in a statement. The airline is working to clear the backlog and reunite passengers with their luggage, estimated at around 30,000 pieces.

Despite the challenges faced by travelers like Dubliner Sarah Jane Cahill, who described crowded terminals and makeshift sleeping arrangements. Both Emirates and flydubai have prioritized getting rebooked passengers on their journeys.

As normalcy resumes, Dubai Airport head Paul Griffiths reported improvements in departures. Dubai International Airport is the world’s second busiest airport. It anticipates a significant rise in passenger traffic this year due to its central location between Europe and Asia.
