7 foods banned in school cafeterias

The Ministry of Education is rapidly preparing for the school year, and is working at full capacity to provide the necessary requirements to start studying at all educational levels without problems.

In the context of equipping school cafeterias, the Ministry has identified food products approved by the General Authority for Food and Nutrition and permitted to be traded in school cafeterias, including juices, pies, milk, and sandwiches, in addition to dozens of other types of biscuits, crackers, salads, and fruits. Meanwhile, the Ministry has banned 7 food items that are prohibited from being traded in school cafeterias, most notably soft drinks, canned juices, sports drinks and foods, energy drinks, and others.

On the other hand, the Ministry’s Educational Facilities Sector asked its engineering staff to finish equipping schools before the start of September, in order to provide the necessary needs for the start of studies at all educational levels without any problems.

List of prohibited foods

The General Authority for Food and Nutrition has identified the foods that are not permitted to be traded in cafeterias, which are:

1- Soft drinks of all kinds

2- Fruit drinks of all kinds

3- Sports drinks and foods

4- Energy drinks and foods

5 – Chewing gum, lollipops, candy and sweets of all kinds.

6- French fries and processed meats such as sausages.

7- Pickles, mayonnaise and fatty sauces
