Residents Face Water Crisis as Summer Approaches

KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait: Residents of Al-Mutla’a City are struggling with a severe lack of fresh water due to the closure of the Amghara water station. This has put immense strain on the Jahra water station, causing wait times for water tanker deliveries to surge to 6 hours. The cost of a single tanker load has also skyrocketed to 15 dinars, placing a heavy financial burden on residents.

Fearing the situation will worsen with approaching summer, residents are pleading with authorities for urgent action. They have appealed to the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Works, and the Environment Agency to find a solution to the water crisis.

“The neglect of our city is unacceptable,” said Khaled Al-Anzi, Chairman of the Al-Mutla’a Residents Committee. “The water crisis goes beyond long wait times – we also have sewage issues. Despite promises to fix these problems, nothing has been done.”

Mishal Al-Hajri, head of Al-Mutla’a’s volunteer committees, blames malfunctioning water pumps for the water shortage. With the Amghara station closed, the pressure on the Jahra station has become overwhelming, leading to delays in water distribution.

Residents are urging officials to take swift action to alleviate their suffering. The lack of access to clean water poses a significant health risk, especially as temperatures rise in the coming months.
