Beat the Heat: Ministry Prepares for Summer Power Surge
Kuwait: The Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy (MEW) is anticipating a surge in electricity demand this summer, with peak loads expected to reach a record 17,250 megawatts (MW). This represents a year-over-year increase and reflects a steady upward trend in power consumption over the past eight years.

The Ministry attributes this growth to several factors, including urban development, population growth, and rising summer temperatures. In some regions, temperatures have reached as high as 52 degrees Celsius, leading to increased reliance on air conditioning and placing additional strain on the power grid.
The Ministry remains committed to ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply for all consumers during the peak summer months. To ensure a smooth summer despite the anticipated record demand, the Ministry of Electricity is taking a two-pronged approach. Firstly, they prioritize thorough and timely maintenance of the electrical grid and power stations. This will optimize performance and minimize disruptions to the power supply. Secondly, ongoing projects are underway to expand electricity generation capacity through power station upgrades. These initiatives aim to reduce pressure on the power grid and maintain a reliable electricity supply throughout the hot summer months.
The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation and may implement additional measures as needed to ensure a stable and secure electricity supply for all residents, reported Al Jarida daily.
