Kuwaiti Roads Get High-Tech Makeover to Target Distracted Drivers

The General Traffic Department (GTD) is hoping this upgrade will improve road safety. The Operations Unit will be responsible for registering violations and issuing fines. Al-Shahed daily reports that the Control Unit already logs around 100 traffic violations per hour, with mobile phone use topping the list.

These efforts follow a previous attempt in 2017 to curb distracted driving and seatbelt neglect. However, the initiative faced pushback from lawmakers, leading to a temporary rollback. The surge in violations since then highlights the need for stricter enforcement.
