This significant policy shift, effective for the upcoming academic year commencing in 2024, will require all new hires in private schools to possess a valid teacher’s license. Previously, such qualifications may not have been universally required.

The newly established licensing requirement mandates that prospective teachers hold a vocational qualification diploma, functioning as a professional license in education. These diplomas must be issued by an accredited academic institution recognized by the Ministry of Education.

Current faculty members in private schools are granted a transitional period of three years to obtain the necessary license. The onus falls upon the schools themselves to ensure their existing staff acquires the qualifications within the stipulated timeframe.

The Ministry of Education’s commitment extends beyond the private sector. MoE has plans to enforce this policy across the entire Kuwaiti education system. Collaborative efforts are underway with the National Center for Educational Development. It is to implement the teacher licensing requirement in public schools as well.
