Kuwait Opens Doors to Foreign Workers with Unrestricted Hiring Policy

Kuwait City, Kuwait: The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) in Kuwait has announced a significant shift in its labor policy, allowing companies to hire foreign workers without limitations. This new policy removes the previous tiered system that restricted the number of work permits companies could obtain based on their classification.

Previously, companies were categorized into three groups with varying quotas for work permits. The first group received permits for 100% of their workforce needs, the second for 50%, and the third for just 25%. Under the new policy, all companies can now hire foreign workers to meet their estimated labor requirements.

The issuance fee for a work permit remains at KD 150 (approximately USD 490). This change is expected to streamline the hiring process for businesses and potentially boost economic activity in Kuwait.

Impact

The unrestricted hiring policy could have several potential consequences:

  • Increased foreign workforce: This move is likely to lead to a significant increase in the number of foreign workers in Kuwait.
  • Boosted economy: Businesses may be able to expand operations and fill critical labor shortages, potentially leading to economic growth.
  • Labor market competition: An influx of foreign workers could introduce competition for jobs and potentially affect wages for some positions.

Further details regarding the long-term implications of this policy are likely to emerge in the coming months.
