The project, envisioned by the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad in 2009, will connect Kuwait to all Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations via a 2,177-kilometer railway. The initial phase focuses on Kuwait, spanning 265 kilometers with two segments for faster completion. The first segment, stretching 111 kilometers from Nuwaiseeb to Shaddadiya, will include passenger stations, maintenance facilities, and freight handling areas.

Passenger trains are expected to reach speeds of 200 kilometers per hour, while freight trains will travel at 120 kilometers per hour. Initially, diesel locomotives will power the trains. The entire railway will have a right-of-way of 200 meters.

With the consultancy bids nearing completion and the new board at the Central Agency appointed, Kuwait is on track to turn its railway dream into reality, reported Arab Times daily.
