Kuwait Tightens Health Screening for Expats: New Testing Protocols Implemented

Previously, if an initial laboratory test for Hepatitis C antibodies produced an “indeterminate” result, a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test would be conducted. The new regulations eliminate the use of PCR in such scenarios, outlining a more efficient approach.

Under the revised guidelines, applicants with two inconclusive antibody tests, spaced at least four weeks apart, can proceed directly to a confirmatory PCR test. A positive PCR result disqualifies the applicant from residency, with established regulations determining the next steps. Conversely, a negative PCR test leads to a one-year residency visa. After the initial year, a repeat PCR test is mandatory for visa renewal. A consecutive negative test grants the applicant “fit for health” status.

These revisions align with the broader health management framework established by the Council of Ministers. The framework outlines procedures for handling positive and negative test results, while also incorporating oversight mechanisms for unforeseen situations. Overall, the updated health screening protocols aim to expedite the residency application process for expatriates in Kuwait, while upholding public health standards.
