French Athlete Shatters Rope Climbing Record on Eiffel Tower Climb

France: Anouk Garnier, a 34-year-old French athlete, has scaled new heights by conquering the Eiffel Tower. It is setting a new world record for rope climbing. On Wednesday, Garnier ascended a staggering 110 meters to the monument’s second floor in just 18 minutes. This surpassing both the overall record and the previous women’s record.

Garnier’s feat wasn’t just about achieving a personal goal; it also served as a fundraiser for cancer research and support. The inspiration struck her after her mother’s diagnosis. That prompted her to combine her athletic prowess with a cause close to her heart.

This record-breaking climb wasn’t without its hurdles. Garnier trained for a year to tackle the Eiffel Tower’s unique challenge, battling weather conditions and coordinating logistics for this “monumental project.” But her unwavering determination and support from her family, who instilled in her the values of hard work and excellence, propelled her forward.

Garnier’s ascent wasn’t just impressive; it shattered the previous records. South Africa’s Thomas Van Tonder’s 90-meter climb in 2020 paled in comparison, and Denmark’s Ida Mathilde Steensgaard’s 26-meter effort in 2022 was eclipsed by a significant margin.

This accomplishment marks a turning point for Garnier. While she plans to return to obstacle course racing and even carry the Olympic torch in Marseille next month, her sights are already set on future challenges. With her dedication and physical prowess, she promises to stay at the top of her game for years to come.
