35,000 Expats Get Residency Relief in Kuwait Amnesty

Kuwait City, Kuwait: Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior announced that around 35,000 out of 120,000 residence law violators have benefited from the ongoing amnesty program. The grace period, which ends on June 17th, allows violators to leave the country without penalty or adjust their immigration status.

The ministry urged remaining violators to take advantage of the amnesty by either departing the country or regularizing their residency. Those seeking to amend their status can visit residency affairs departments across the country during morning hours. Specific procedures are in place for various residency categories, including expired residencies, domestic worker transfers, and company-sponsored residencies.

Crucially, violators with valid passports can leave Kuwait without visiting residency offices or paying fines. However, those lacking valid passports must obtain emergency travel documents from their embassies and register them with residency authorities before departure.

The ministry assured that those who leave during the amnesty can return under normal procedures. However, anyone apprehended after the deadline will face legal action, deportation, and a permanent re-entry ban.

Authorities plan to intensify enforcement measures against remaining violators after the amnesty concludes. Major General Mishal Al-Shanfa, head of residency affairs investigations, urged violators to leave or adjust their status to avoid legal repercussions. Security campaigns targeting residency and labor law violators will commence following the amnesty’s end.
