Gulf Railway Project Takes Off: Kuwait Signs Key Consultancy Contract

In a significant step towards regional connectivity, Kuwait’s Minister of Public Works, Dr. Noura Al-Mashaan, has officially signed the contract to appoint a consultant for the much-anticipated Gulf Railway Project.

According to sources cited by Al-Rai, the signing follows approval from regulatory authorities, greenlighting the selection of an international consultant to carry out the study, detailed design, and preparation of tender documents for the project’s first phase.

A Milestone for Regional Connectivity

Dr. Al-Mashaan emphasized that this marks the beginning of the project, starting with the study and design of the first phase. She highlighted Kuwait’s strategic position as the northern terminus of the GCC railway network, with a planned route spanning 111 kilometers that will directly link to Saudi Arabia.

The Kuwaiti section will account for approximately 5% of the entire Gulf railway network, underscoring the country’s vital role in this regional infrastructure initiative.

The minister also expressed her deep commitment to the project, acknowledging the support and cooperation of regulatory bodies in advancing this vital step. Her proactive approach and close follow-up on developments have played a key role in moving the project forward.
