Authorities Increase Market Oversight in Preparation for Eid Al-Adha

Kuwait City, Kuwait: In anticipation of the upcoming Eid Al-Adha holiday, Kuwaiti authorities are ramping up market inspections to safeguard consumers from price gouging and exploitation. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry’s Commercial Control and Consumer Protection Sector has deployed teams of inspectors across various departments and emergency teams in the markets.

A collaborative workshop between the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has been organized to facilitate the exchange of experiences between inspectors from both ministries. The focus of the workshop is to compare prices of vegetables. Also, fruits in cooperative societies and the fruit market, promote transparency and protect consumer rights.

Recent monitoring campaigns have identified violations in some cooperative societies, resulting in notices and potential legal action. Emergency teams in Jahra and Farwaniya are conducting daily inspections, seizing goods from shops and commercial stalls found to be non-compliant.

Supervisory teams have also conducted comprehensive inspections of commercial markets, particularly focusing on stores selling women’s shoes, bags, and fabrics. These inspections aim to verify the origin of goods, ensure compliance with announced prices. Also check for proper documentation in Arabic and English.
