Bloomberg cites unnamed sources familiar with the matter who revealed that Apple engineers are currently working on a mobile robot designed to navigate and potentially interact with users within their homes. The report also mentions a separate project for a “desktop robotic display device,” though this concept appears to be less firmly established on Apple’s roadmap.
Apple has established a dominant presence in homes and workplaces over the years. Their journey began with personal computers. Later saw immense success with the iPod and iPhone, particularly in the US smartphone market. The company has also seen strong adoption of its tablets, smartwatches, and headphones, especially within its existing user base. However, recent product launches, such as the Apple Watch and the mixed reality headset “Apple Vision Pro,” haven’t generated the same level of buzz or innovation. The “Vision Pro,” for example, arrived later than competing products and seems geared towards professional users.
This reported venture into home robotics suggests Apple’s intent to spark renewed excitement and potentially redefine how people interact with technology in their daily lives. Their success in the home robotics market, however, remains to be seen.
