The memorandum would establish regulations for recruiting workers from Addis Ababa, opening a new market for Kuwait and potentially alleviating labor market strain. Local recruitment agencies are reportedly prepared to begin contracts with Ethiopian counterparts once the agreement is signed.

“This step is crucial for diversifying our domestic worker recruitment sources, creating better market balance and reducing shortages,” Al-Shammari emphasized. He urged authorities to expedite agreements with Ethiopia and other potential markets “to guarantee a steady flow of workers and prevent market disruptions.”

Al-Shammari also highlighted the importance of raising awareness about cybercrime related to domestic worker services and cautioned against fraudulent hourly service offers. Additionally, he called for increased collaboration between the Public Authority for Manpower and exporting countries to meet Kuwait’s worker demands.

Finally, Al-Shammari urged authorities to educate recruitment agencies, office owners, and employers on the new domestic worker regulations, which aim to protect worker rights and have reportedly gained acceptance within the recruitment sector, reported Al Jarida daily.
